I read a tweet a few days ago. The person said he’s not worried about making an impact because when he dies…that’s all gone. I think that is a myopic thought. One of the greatest blessings you can give your progeny is a good name. How do you achieve that? Integrity, kindness and high values. You may not know but the name you create now has its ripple effect on generations to come. Baba Awolowo has been dead for some time now yet his name still opens doors for his children. We can list some other names that when you mention them, the whole door and gates will be closed on you.
People think that you can’t have a good name and be rich. These two are mutually exclusive. Having a good name does not mean grooming yourself to be a pauper. Far from it. Work hard and make your money legitimately while teaching your children about values and kindness. Watch your name open doors of favor for you and your progeny even in your lifetime. How do you know someone that has been in a position of power and acted right when he/she was there? By the way they’re treated when that power has been abdicated. By the respect they still command when they no longer have it.
A good name…is the best legacy you can leave for your children. It is the best foundation you can give them. I lost my father a long time ago. The kind of favors I have gotten because of him….too much to mention. The mere mention of his name still evokes tears from people. People I never even saw in his lifetime. The kind of doors that open for me because of my parents….I cannot begin to mention.
Again, except you’re an evil person, there’s this feeling of peace that flows within you when you know you’ve touched and impacted other people’s lives positively. I can speak for myself in that regard. I’m at my happiest when I’m helping people.
We’re getting a lot of things wrong fundamentally. That is why we’re having a lot of dysfunctional adults.
“A good name is more desirable than great riches, favor is far better than silver and gold”.
